Andon Mehillaj, the most wanted of the Albanian Police, turned himself in at the Vlore Prosecution.
Charged with financing terrorism and for cooperatio in murder, Mehillaj, the man accused of providing clients for the paid hitman, Julian Sinanaj, turned himself in at the local Prosecution, accompanied by a friend of his.
The police weas informed later about the turning him. Initial data showed that a friend of his, bar owner in Vlore, was contacted by him and was asked to accompany Mehillaj at the Prosecution. Mehillaj declared that he is not guilty for the charges.
His defending lawyer says that Mehillaj has nothing to do with the group of killers, beside one of the murders, that of Sokol Veizi. But the lawyer didn’t give anymore details. He admitted that his client knew Sinanaj. The lawyer declared that Mehillaj turnedn himself in after securing his family.
Mehillaj declared that he was aware of the crime, but not to the level claimed by Sinanaj. He turned himself in to be present and protect himself better. He says that he is related only with the murder of Sokol Veizi, but not as the media had described it. He has not admitted that he has ordered murders and he denies every involvement with the other events mentioned by the media. There was a period of time when they had a fight with Julian, and that he was under his threat. This is something about two years ago, according to the lawyer, Edmond Ukaj.
Mehillaj was not interrogated to Vlore, since his case has passed to the Prosecution of Serious Crimes. He was brought to Tirana under special security measures, and was interrogated by the Court of Serious Crimes in Tirana.
The two cousins, Andon and Genis Mehillaj, were declared wanted by the police at January 29th, after Julian Sinanaj declared that they were the ones finding him the clients. The Mehillaj are accused of ordering the murder of their neighbor, Sokol Veizi. A few days ago, an explosive blew up at Andon Mehillaj’s house, and police considered it as a warning.
