Albanian police vetting: Force head Ardi Veliu asset declaration is cleared

The general director of Albanian State Police, Ardi Veliu went today under the sieve of the External Evaluation Commission, in the framework of the police force vetting, and was cleared of false declarations or concealment of assets.

The Commission stated that there are no records of investigations or criminal proceedings being launched against him or his family members. Ardi Veliu was not a former Sigurimi security officer or has been investigated for espionage and terrorism, according to the Commission.

Amongs the complaints against Veliu was mentioned a chalenge of the Police Force Union against Veliu related to “unauthorized decision making on duty”.

Otherwise the Commission states that Veliu has correctly filled out the asset declaration form, and has had no contact with incriminated persons.
It is stated that the level of education matches Veliu’s role and there are no disciplinary investigations on his work over the years. He has obtained his ranks chronologically over the years.

He has declared as assets an apartment in Tirana worth 79,000 euros, a loan of 5 million lek and his family income. He currently lives in a rented house with his wife.

The final vetting verdict on Albanian police head Ardi Veliu will be given on the 7-th of February.
