Prime Minister Edi Rama has announced today the dismissal of the head of the Albanian police, Ardi Veliu.
Rama published Veliu’s letter with his resignation requesting, who in turn said that will not seek another term as he wants to dedicate himself to his family.
In a comment by the general secretary of the opposition PD, Gazment Bardhi, the departure was labeled “one less bandit”.
Bardhi claims that Veliu has served criminal groups and drug trafficking networks. He added that his departure was forced “but without the departure of Edi Rama, there will never be a serious fight against crime and honest police officers will continue to feel betrayed and demotivated”.
Further on he added: “There is one less bandit at the head of the State Police today. Ardi Veliu has been at the service of criminal groups and international drug traffickers every day. His departure was forced, despite the denial of Edi Rama.”
“Under the police leadership of Ardi Veliu, Albania was ranked among the leading countries for drug trafficking, from cocaine to cannabis; The US State Department has included Albania in the list of top countries for money laundering.
“Ardi Veliu is neither the first nor the last police director to leave with shame during these 8 years, causing great damage to the country and its citizens. This story will be repeated as long as their boss, Edi Rama, is the main partner of organized crime.
“Without the removal of Edi Rama, there will never be a serious fight against crime, honest police officers will continue to feel betrayed and demotivated, and serious criminal events will continue to shake our cities.”
