“You doubled the salaries for yourself, while you impoverished the pensioners… We will raise our voices, we will take to the streets…”, said today the pensioners gathered in a protest in front of the prime minister’s office in the Albanian capital, Tirana.
Pensioners have undertaken several protests for their dire economic situation, starting from the end of October. This is the fourth time they have protested in front of the prime minister’s building, presenting their demands to the executive.
A representative of protesting pensioners said:
“With the pension I receive, I live only for 4 days. Thank goodness I have a son abroad. He takes it out of his own child’s mouth and keeps us, the old here. I worked 40 years in a factory in shifts, we are tired and trampled. These politicians live on the planet Mars, they are totally disconnected from us. The children we have that we raised with blood and sweat are running away from us.
“Thankful that we have children, they help us because if they were here, they would be out of work and worse for us. The mayors are increasing their salaries, they are raising almost 3 million lek, what about us pensioners, who will think about us. Tell me what job that a deputy does to get paid that much money per month.”
