Albanian opposition leader promises pensioners in Elbasan that ‘in the next government, salaries and pensions will be the highest in the region’

DP leader Sali Berisha met today with pensioners in Elbasan in central Albania, where he accused the socialist government of not implementing the pension increases.

“Previous democratic governments have increased pensions. We found the average pension to be 70 euros, we increased it to 105 euros. Meanwhile PM Rama says it can’t be done, that if we increase pensions, for hi mis just like a crime. Why aren’t pensions increasing? Is it a crime to increase pensions? Montenegro has pensions 310 percent more than us. So what does Montenegro have more than us?,” asked Berisha.

The opposition leader also brought up the example of Kosovo.

“Albin Kurti told pensioners a month ago that he would increase them by 20 percent. He took 100 million euros and sent them to the pension fund. What about us with an 8 billion budget, for 780 thousand pensioners, what will happen to the state if he takes 800 million and sends them to the pension fund? Does the prime minister consider pensioners people? People who talk to themselves that they can’t make ends meet. This is a crime, a serious crime!”, adds the leader of the DP.

Sali Berisha promised that in the first 3 months if he wins the elections, “we will turn this inhuman pension distribution scheme upside down”.

Therefore, the leader of the DP added that “we have decided first to set the living minimum for every Albanian at 200 euros in the first year as the first step. And on top of this 200 euros we will calculate the pensions.”
