Albania imported 29.9 million EUR of electricity to cover August only

28/07/2017 00:00

Energy imports for covering consumption of August will cost the Energy
Distribution Operator (OSHEE) a total of 29.9 million EUR.

OSHEE announced they have finalized the buying process for the next month, at the fourth attempt. The quantity offered by private companies in the first three attempts was lower than what the OSHEE needed to cover consumption.

Albania’s energy system is facing one of the most difficult situations, due to the lack of rains. Fierza reserves show the lowest points ever, forcing OSHEE to spend more for importing energy.

OSHEE has spent 50 million EUR for the July-August period, while imports will continue even in September. The crisis is so deep the government is taking in consideration modifying the annual budget.
