Vasil Vasho retired 10 years ago and decided to spend his time growing hazelnuts. Today, the entire Andon Poci village follows his example.
These farm workers moved to the area in 1957, due to an agricultural enterprise that was built by the state. Today there are almost only senior citizens living there, and the entire territory is used to plant hazelnuts, reaching an annual yield of 18 tons.
“I was the first one to try it in 1998. I wanted to plant nut trees, but an expert told me that hazelnuts were better in a flat area”, Basho recalls.
The 84-year-old Jeras Basho says that the entire product is sold to Tirana buyers. This year, 1 kg of hazelnuts was sold with 420 ALL.
This culture doesn’t require a lot of service and is resistant to extreme climatic conditions.
