The Namazgja Mosque in Tirana already has a leader, and he is not Albanian, but a Turkish imam. As reported, the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Turkey has appointed the Imam of the Namazgja Mosque, built with funds from the Turkish government in Albania.
It was the Turkish Imam Enes Bastur himself who announced this news through a reaction on social networks.
“Dear friends, with the instructions of our Directorate of Religious Affairs, I was assigned to the great shrine of the central Namazgja Mosque in Tirana, Albania,” he wrote.
Despite the fact that he says that he has been appointed imam of the Namazgja Mosque, so far there is no official reaction, it is even reported that Imam Enes Bashtur has later deleted this announcement from his social networks.
When asked by Top Channel, the press office of the Muslim Community of Albania said that they have no official position on this news, and that appointments to the heads of mosques are not made by religious institutions of foreign countries, but by Albanian religious institutions.
Other imams also refused to comment, replying that there is nothing official.
The news precedes the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to our country this week. Official sources inform that Erdogan will hold a conference with Prime Minister Rama and will also inaugurate the central mosque of Namazgja in Tirana.
