35 arrested for illegal gambling, in wide ranging operation during the Euro 2020 semi-final

35 people were arrested last night during the operation codenamed “Semifinal”, held in 12 regions of the country during the England-Denmark football match.

Authorities said that 1100 police forces were engaged in the operation, where 19 people were arrested in Tirana, 6 in Vlora, 5 in Shkodra, 2 in Durres, 1 in Bulqiza, 1 in Fier, 1 in Korca. Another 18 people have been placed under investigation.

Across the country, 656 premises were searched as suspected to be involved in illegal gambling activity, mainly in the field of sports betting.

Dozens of devices were seized including computers and poker tables and other illegal gambling supporting appliances.
