The first nine months of this year have marked a significant decrease in movements across Albanian borders, both for foreigners entering the country and Albanians leaving the country. This is due to the restrictive measures imposed by the states to keep the Covid-19 pandemic under control, writes Top Channel’s Genta Dobra.

About 3.3 million fewer visitors entered Albania during January-September, marking a strong contraction of 61.1% compared to the same period a year earlier.

The biggest decline was recorded by tourists from Spain with about 90%, followed by Poles, visitors from the United States and neighbors from Italy, decreasing by 73.8% or 281 thousand visitors less than in 2019.

While visitors from Kosovo seem to have saved the hit tourism this year by compensating for the losses from foreign tourists, as data show that in September they entered about 73.3 thousand more than compared to a year ago.

The restriction of movements has also hindered the outflow of Albanians abroad, halving them to 2.2 million during this 9-month period, from 4.4 million that was compared to the same period of 2019.
