Albanian authorities have announced today that 23 drug distribution groups have been destroyed in Tirana, Durrës, Korçë, Elbasan and Vlorë, in the police operation codenamed “Tempulli”.
In a statement to the media, the General Director of the State Police, Muhamet Rrumbullaku, said that the operation is still ongoing throughout the country, while 233 people have been arrested.
“Cannabis, cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, firearms and cold weapons, monetary values and tools used for the packaging and distribution of narcotics were also seized”, said Rrumbullaku.
The police operation took place within the framework of measures to guarantee safety in schools.
The traffickers reportedly put hashish in fishcans and then distributed it. The cannabis they traded was grown with bulbs and cost 3,000 lek, which is three times more expensive than classic cannabis.
From the beginning of the year until now, according to the police, 116 operations related to the production and distribution of narcotics in the country have been completed, after which more than 1,000 citizens have been stopped, arrested and put under investigation for selling drugs in the vicinity of schools, in bars, nightclubs and on the beaches during the summer season.
In total, 829 kg of cannabis, 1.5 kg of heroin, 15.5 kg of cocaine and 5.2 kg of ecstasy were seized.
