13 EU countries have drafted a formal written an informal document to make an appeal in favour of opening the EU accession negotiations for Albania and Northern Macedonia.
Euractiv says that the countries that have signed this letter are Italy, Poland, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Malta.
The document underlines that the EU must keep its promise about the EU integration of Western Balkans.
France and the Netherlands are currently the main countries that oppose the opening of the EU accession negotiations. Germany’s CDU-CSU also favours postponing the negotiations, but the SPD insists that they should be opened immediately.
