For the second time Albanian President Ilir Meta has climbed prosecution office stairs today, this time to indict Justice Minister Etilda Gjonaj and two other officials for what he described as “serious proven falsifications”.

At a time when the deadly coronavirus is the headlines of the day, the president used it as a new epithet for the ruling majority. “’Rilindja’ is like a plague,” he said, referring to the socialist majority preferred name for the current mandate in power.

The filing of this lawsuit by President Ilir Meta is a strong test for the SPAK special prosecution office since in addition to the hot files of organized crime, it has to investigate and respond to this lawsuit of strong political coloring, which in turn is a clear and strong clash between the presidency and the government.
