The Bank of Albania reported that direct foreign investments reached 1 billion EUR in 2016, marking a new historic record.
Foreign companies have invested 983 million EUR in Albania, or 10.5% more than one year ago.
Detailed data show that the economy has profited from two major projects in energy, the Transadriatic Pipeline and the Devoll Cascade.
The Bank of Albania says that investments in the gas and energy sectors reached 166.5 million EUR in the third trimester, marking a total of 370 million EUR.
The oil and mineral extraction industry comes second, with 55 million EUR of investments only in the fourt trimester.
Different from what has happened in other countries, foreign investments have increased in Albania, despite the crisis. It takes 10% of the current GDP and remains one of the best sources of employment and increasing demand.
