Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future “The Constitutional Principles and the Basic Rights in the
Constitutional Court Jurisprudence”, is the latest publication that has
as co-author the Constitutional Court member, Xhezair Zaganjori.
After presenting the book, Zaganjori, the candidate that was presented by the majority for the Presidential Post, declared for Top Channel that he left the presidential race with his own will, and confirmed that he doesn’t regret that action.
“I have had several publications in law, and today we promoted an interesting one made by three co-authors. I worked with two members of the Constitutional Court, not as judges. We thought to realize a book in which we reflected the contribution of the Constitutional Court in the last 20 years”, Zaganjori declared during the promotion.
As the former candidate of the majority for running as president, he was asked about his opinion on the race, one month after he withdrew from it.
“I don’t want to return to this problem. We have an elected president now who will start his duty, and I sincerely wish him all the best and successes in the important duty as head of the state and representative of the people’s unity. Personally, I wouldn’t speak about blackmail. The debate was about the process for several days, only in the last two-three days I was attacked individually, and I arrived here on behalf of consensus. My name was proposed on behalf of consensus. On those conditions, by being attacked individually for the decisions that had been made, for my positions and many other things, I was convinced that the opposition didn’t trust me and I withdrew”, Zaganjori declared.
Zaganjori’s withdrawal was commented a few days ago, as if it was related with a possible blackmail with the Communist Secret Service files, which the professor of international law denies categorically.
“There was absolutely no kind of blackmail, on the contrary. I had never had this problem. I have never cooperated with justice institutions during the communist regime. Since 1981, I have been a professor at the Faculty of Justice, and until the collapse of the regime and the start of the democratic processes, when I was chosen as Ambassador to the German Federation Republic. I have frequently been a university professor and I have worked at the Constitutional Court, where I still work. I have also worked at the Max Plank Institution, in Germany. The communist secret service files should have been opened since the beginning. Now, after 20 years, we are too late. There is also a soft opening of the files, and at least this should have been made. I find it a right decision that some people who are tasked with high rank state administration duties should be checked in those files, for seeing their problems with the past”, Zaganjori declared.
Xhezair Zaganjori says that his mandate as Constitutional Court Judge has expired and that he will leave within this year to continue his academic life, without any ambition for politics.
