Zaev, ultimatum to Ivanov: “10 days to mandate new government”

After presenting his government program, Zoran Zaev gave President Ivanov 10 days before mandating the new government.
The President used the argument that the coalition with the Albanian parties and accepting their platform would put Macedonia at risk.
The German envoy to Skopje, Christian Hellbach, was the most recent international voice who asked Ivanov to withdraw and respect democratic principles.
The President of Macedonia used the 25th anniversary of the Armed Forces foundation to declare that the army is ready to defend the territorial integrity and independence of Macedonia.
There are concerns about that “patriotic protests” of Gruevski’s supporters may take violent turns. Some protesters, interviewed by regional media, have exploded to anger after Zaev’s name was mentioned.
They say it is unacceptable that Zaev accepted the platform of the Albanian parties. The organizers of these marches claim they are not tied to the VMRO-DPMNE, but the protests started right after the appeal made by Gruevski for people to “mobilize and defend the country”.
