Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Court’s verdict that found the defendants of the January 21st events
not guilty has caused a strong reaction of the opposition in
Parliament.
In the moment when the court gave the verdict, the Justice Minister, Eduard Halimi, was speaking about a convention in the Parliament’s podium. The opposition’s MPs asked Minister Halimi to interrupt the speech, since his Ministry had just ceased existing.
On behalf of the opposition, Socialist MP Saimir Tahiri promised that justice will be made and none of the executors would escape punishments. His speech caused the reaction of the Parliament Speaker, Jozefina Topalli.
“Cursed may be the day when power covered your eyes to the point when you dared to kill people for power and then kill them for a second time with a denied justice. Today is a mourning day, because Ziver Veizi, Hekuran Deda, Aleks Nika and Faik Myrtaj were killed for a second time. You just showed to the Albanian people that it is dangerous to be right when the government is wrong. I want to remind to you, the ministers and MPs, and also to Agim Llupo and Ndrea Prendi, that you will not escape. I’m telling you this on behalf of the victims’ families”, Tahiri declared.
The Parliament Speaker, Jozefina Topalli, intervened by saying:
“Forget it how we were in the communist era. Today things are different. When the court speaks you have to be silent and shut your mouth”, Topalli declared.
Braçe: This regime kills!
The Socialist MP reacted on Facebook, right after the verdict.
“Sali Berisha’s court just set a new standard. Kill the Prime Minister’s opponents and you are innocent. The National Guard Commander of Sali Berisha and the killers, those who executed four innocent and unarmed citizens, were just found innocent by Sali Berisha. They killed and they were just released. All Albania saw them when they were killed, but no one punished them for that. This is a regime, and it kills you. Stand up and protect yourself with everything, with every tool”, Brace declared.
