The US Deputy Assistant State Secretary, Hoyt Brian yee, appealed the Kosovo government to ratify the border agreement with Montenegro and make way for the benefits that citizens would be having without a visa regime in the Schengen area.
“I understand that border agreements with neighbors are complicated sometimes, but it is necessary for the public to understand what is going to be achieved. It is also important for Kosovo leaders to take responsibility and ratify the agreement”, Yee declared.
As for the role of the USA in the Kosovo-Serbia talks, the US State Department underlined that Washington is already present enough.
“We have been present from the start. Our goal is to be present for as long that the EU wants us to be. For now, they want it. As long as both Kosovo and Serbia want us to be present, we will play our part”, Yee said.
As for the creation of the Armed Forces, Yee said that the most appropriate way would be transforming the Security Forces into an army, through constitutional amends, so that all international partners and friends of Kosovo can become part of it and express their views in Parliamentary debates. Constitutional amends would be the best way to guarantee the legitimacy of a transformation process”, Yee said.
