Roma women protested in Tirana’s main boulevard on the International Day
of Roma, asking to end the discrimination against this community, more
employment and health care for them and their families.

“The Roma women rightfully demand to be equal part of the Albanian society. They demand their rights in all aspects of life, education, employment, health service and in all aspects of public social lives”, one Roma woman says.

The Minister of Social Welfare, Erjon Veliaj, declared that there is an employment strategy for this community and also health care assistance.

“I am very happy that we have started the tele-medicine projects. We have realized medical tests even in informal areas. I am happy for the progress. We have employed two young people from the Roma and the Egyptian community. I would want to invite other institutions as well. A beautiful Albania is an Albania with diversity”, Veliaj declared.

On the international day of the Roma, the Parliament Leader, Ilir Meta, opened the doors of his institution for the children of this community. Together with the Minister of Education, Lindita Nikolla, they attended activities with music and paintings, organized in the Parliament’s office and where the Roma children were protagonists.
