Women, 30% of the Parliament

Representatives from the civil society have demanded for a special
attention on the representation of women in politics and decision-making
posts.

The Civil Society declares that the parties should respect the law for having more than 30% of the MPs females. They asked CEC to reject the list of MPs, if 30% of them are not women.

“The New Electora Code will guarantee that at least 30% of the MPs for the next Parliament will be composed of women. This is the minimal obligatory percentage of representation, and it should expand even for the local elections. The code must guarantee that 30% of the CEC members, Voting centers and Zonal Commissions should be composed of women. The law should also give harsher sanctions to the parties that do not implement the minimal 30% quota, together with the enforcement of the sanctions against the family voting”, declared Mirela Arqimandriti, representative of the Strengthening the Woman Role in Albania.

The representatives asked harsher sanctions for eliminating the family voting, a phenomenon that can be found in several areas of Albania.
