Woman dies in Bulqize chrome stock piles

The Bulqize chrome stocks have claimed another life from the poor people of this region who dig minerals to survive.

A 45-year-old mother of four died today after she was hit by a falling stone, and she had already passed away by the time she arrived at the hospital.

Lirie Mero lived in extreme poverty with her four children and her disabled husband. The entire family lived in one only room and only Lirie’s work could provide something to eat to all six.

Dozens of people, including children, collect mineral with their bare hands each day, under piles of mineral stones, and they sell them to private companies.

The Bulqize Mine has claimed a large number of miners during the years.

The working conditions are far from being safe, and if this wasn’t enough, the companies that control the underground have conducted very bad managements.

Last month police made a detailed inspection to all vehicles that transport chrome from Bulqize to Durres.

After an armed conflict between groups that want to illegally keep under control the area D of the mine, the General Police started inspecting some people who abuse with chrome.

The Special Forces conducted a two-day mission in Bulqize, especially in the problematic areas.

Two women die in Korce

Two women drowned today in Korce, while going to a funeral. The tragedy took place in Miras, when 20 residents were crossing a river through a tractor that was toppled by the strong water flow.
