Wollfarth: Ina Rama until 2013

The OSCE Ambassador, Eugen Wollfarth, declared that the mandate of the
General Prosecutor ends on May 2013. Different from the majority’s
voices, Wolfarth argues that this is the time when the 5 year mandate of
the General Prosecutor ends, according to the Constitutional amends of
2008.

After meeting the General Prosecutor, Ina Rama, Wollfarth appealed the political parties to make good use of these eight months and find a mutual candidate that will take the Albanian Prosecution.

“It’s true that there have been some different views about the General Prosecutor’s mandate. According to the Constitution, the important fact is that the mandate is limited. Sooner or later she will be succeeded by someone else. It is important to use these months and weeks to find a qualified candidate. I would make an appeal to the parties to use this time outside the political campaign. Year 2013 will have many movements because of the general elections. According to the Constitutional amends that were realized on May 2008, May 2013 is the time when we will have a new General Prosecutor”, Wollfarth declared.

Wollfarth added that during the meeting with Ina Rama they also discussed about the January 21st events. The head of OSCE in Tirana declared for the media that there is still space for supporting the independent work of the Prosecution, but for the process to close earlier, this institution must cooperate with the Ministries of the Albanian state.
