The meeting between the Albanian President Bamir Topi and the OSCE
ambassador in Tirana, Eugen Wollfarth, ended after 70 minutes, although
it was planned to last only 30.
According to the presidential press release, the Head of the Albanian State and the OSCE ambassador shared the same opinion on the vital need that the Albanians have for calm and correct local elections. The ambassador valued the role of the president as a political moderator, especially during the pre-election phase.
The head of the OSCE mission in Tirana, after being asked by Top-Channel, commented on the latest decision of the Central Election Commission, which obliges the media to accept in their news editions electoral video reports pre-edited by the political parties.
“The freedom of media and of the reporters is extremely important; therefore I appeal all journalists to prepare their reports by themselves. Naturally, some TV stations do not have the possibilities of the big media, which means that they do not have the necessary human resources to cover the electoral meetings. It is extremely important that the reports must come from the journalists. I invite all media to access first-hand information and to transmit well-prepared news, which I have noticed at some Albanian media”, Wollfarth said.
The ambassador appealed all people to vote and show their trust on the electoral system, because the citizens should help with the democracy that has had visible progress in the latest 20 years. Mr. Wollfarth said that in the past, the commissioners have abandoned the voting centers. He emphasized that there should be taken measures sot that this thing will never happen again, and, according to the ambassadors, this measures are starting to be taken.
