The Socialist MP, Taulant Balla, was fined by the Tirana Court with 700.000 ALL. Judge Rezarta Vigani found the MP guilty of slander on the damage of the General Vice Chief of the State Police, Agron Kulicaj.

A few moments after the sentence, Balla declared that he hasn’t changed his accusations towards Kulicaj, although the court’s decision was politically mounted.

He accused the Parliament Speaker, Jozefina Topalli and judge Vigani of having decided the conclusion of this trial.

“They didn’t allow us to present the evidence, but we had a prefabricated sentence and I think that the verdict that I heard on the court room was the same that was given one week earlier by the Parliament Speaker. The Albanian judicial system suffers from a serious disease, which is more dangerous that the other disease that has infected the government”, Balla declared.

Balla commented the court verdict with irony towards the Prime Minister: “The judge repeated what she had set up with Berisha and Topalli”, he declared.

The Socialist MP declared that he continues to believe that there is one part of the justice that will react against the state control on the judicial system.

In the cables published by Wikileaks, the US ambassador John Withers accused Agron Kulicaj of having suspicious ties with organized crime and corruption.

The cable presented scandalous details, to the point that he had helped Sritan Dajti to escape the arrests.

Taulant Balla’s charges towards Kulicaj came only one day after these cables were published in the Albanian media.
