The Interior Minister, Bujar Nishani, during the meeting of the
Parliamentary Commission of Security, summoned by the Socialist
MPs, declared that the accusations against the General Vice Chief of Police,
Agron Kulicaj, are political accusations.

Nishani denied of seeing any truth in the US Embassy cables published by Wikileaks, which quote the accusations of the General Chief of Police, Hysni Burgaj, against his dependent.

“There is no evidence that can prove these political and unfounded accusations”, Nishani declared.

Asked by the Socialist MPs for the other unsolved murders, starting with the murder of Socialist MP Fatmir Xhindi and that of Judge Konomi, Minister Nishani declared that the investigation is a competence of the prosecution, and that the police have fulfilled all their duties.

“The State Police has given important information to the investigating team. It is up to the Court to determine the true motive of all cases”, Nishani declared.

In his response, the Socialist MP Paulin Sterkaj declared that when a criminal is arrested, police takes the merits. But when the author is not found, the responsibility goes to the prosecution. While for the Vice Chair of the Commission, Ilir Gjoni, the Minister’s references to the current results against crime were manipulative. Gjoni declared that the situation is serious and police frequently hides behind statistics.

“Based on the study we presented, and the one that is still going on among the public, we note that the quality of order and security has deteriorated”, Gjoni says.

When asked about the January 21st investigations, Mr. Nishani declared that the investigation cannot be complete without the testimony of the ones who organized the protest.
