Urben Massena, an Albanian citizen of Congolese origins, for the last three years has been attending trials for seeing his daughter, now nine, after his former-wife has taken her and left Albania.

An Albanian Court decision grants him the right to meet his daughter every weekend, on summer and winter holidays.

The 53 year old Congolese man works as a doctor in Albania, after he arrived here when young, during the 70s. After living together with an Albanian woman, he became father to Eden, for whom the court decided that her mother is the one who will raise her. The father must meet her on weekends and during holidays. But the woman has left Albania together with her child in suspicious circumstances, since she had no passport. The father says that his daughter is now a Greek citizen.

“I haven’t met my daughter for four years”, Massena says.

The mother has asked the Court of Appeal to change the meeting conditions, since she cannot bring her from Greece. But the Court has rejected this request, since the woman has left Albania illegally. The Court of Appeal says that the woman has taken the child without the father’s consent. The legal battle is being scrutinized by the Tirana Penal Court and Urben Messena has accused the mother of kidnapping.

“She has taken the girl illegally, or she might have left her to some orphanage, or even sold her. I don’t know. I have the document which says that the child is a Greek citizen now”, Massena delared.
