Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The money from the privatization of Albpetrol will change the country’s economy in a time of crisis.
The former Deputy Minister of Finances, Sherefedin Shehu, says that there is a standard rule that has been constantly implemented with privatizations, and according to which the profited money goes to the reduction of the public debt and public investments.
“There’s a standard rule that has been constantly implemented and defines that the privatization standards are used for the decrease of the public debt and for public investments, and these are the only areas that can be financed by the privatization of Albpetrol”, Shehu declared.
Selami Xhepa, an MP of the Democratic Party, thinks that the money that will be received from the sale of Albpetrol could increase the public investments and could reduce the public debt cost.
“First of all, it would mean that we have an investment program, a supplementary budget that is almost equal to the entire annual budget and that would have a very important impact to the economic increase, and that it would also reduce the debt. It is a very considerable number that would reduce the Albanian debt and would increase the interest of investors to keep buying the Albanian debt in the future with a lower cost. Keeping in mind that the road construction program is an important process, I think that it would be of a special interests to finalize it”, Xhepa declared.
As regards the evaluation deadline of the companies offered for the privatization of Albpetrol, the former Deputy Ministers of Finance say that due to the complexity of the case, the winners will be declared after several weeks.
From 19 companies that showed their interest for the purchase of Albpetrol only six of them gave an offer, with the highest price being 850 million EUR, offered by the Vetro Silk Road Equiti consortium.
