Where will SMI go?

If the Socialist Movement for Integration will abandon the ruling
coalition, new possibilities will open for their position in the June
23rd elections.

The European Socialist leaders appealed for unification of the Albanian left wing, and none of the SMI or SP leaders released any declaration against it.

So far there is no official offer from the SP, and no official answer from the SMI. The President of the European Socialist Parties, Stanishev; the Vice President of the European Parliament, Gianni Pittella; and the President of the Socialist International, Papandreu, appealed Rama and Meta to leave their divisions aside and join for to win the elections.

Keeping in mind the former positions of the SMI, these declarations insinuate that this political force will not wait the winner of the elections to take its position.

But now that it is almost certain that the SMI will abandon the government, where will they go?

The first scenario is uniting with the Socialist Party, same as in 2007. This is the natural position of the political force led by Meta. Sources at the SMI say that a coalition of these left forces would help the integration. The three laws were a public condition for Meta, and now the SP could vote them at the Parliament.

The possibility for a coalition with the SP could be the centre of discussion for the SP tomorrow at 10:30, after which they could come up with an offer for the SMI.

According to these sources, SMI and SP are closer to a cooperation with each other, while a second scenario is that of the creation of a third pole. SMI, NDS and UHRP have given signals to join a cooperate, after there are no more hopes of cooperation with the PJIU.
