After the Thessaloniki Summit of 2003, the one held in Sofia on May 17th is the most important one, as regards Western Balkan countries.
The Summit aims to inject new energies in the EU-Balkan relations.
According to the agenda, there will be three main purposes: 1) reaffirming EU’s commitment to Western Balkan partners; 2) reinforcing ties between EU and Western Balkans in infrastructure, digital and human connections; 3) closer cooperation for challenges of mutual interest, such as security, migration, geopolitical developments and good neighboring.
The summit will focus on improving the relations within Western Balkan countries. Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, spoke about the importance of this summit in improving the ties of the EU with Western Balkans.
