Weekends bookings in the tourist areas of the city of Vlora in southwestern Albania, predict a busy tourist season this summer.
This year, a double-decker bus service to various archaeological and historical points will be added to tourist tours to explore the sea and the beautiful bays of Vlora.
The head of tourist operators for the south of the country, Vasil Bedini, says that he expects a large influx of tourists.
“This month of April, the weekends have been booked, and from the number of reservations it seems that it will be a good year, the growth for this year of tourists will be up to 25%, it may be higher, but the capacity in Vlora cannot to cope with more flow”, said Bedini.
“We are satisfied at the start of the season, as the bookings for the summer months are satisfactory, where we have customers such as Italians, Kosovars, Macedonians, Montenegrins, but there is also an influx from the Dutch or the Nordic areas of Europe,” says receptionist Anxhela Sholla.
But human resources still remain the weak point of tourism. Although operators say they are improving wages, hours and working conditions, they still fail to attract enough workers.
“The small labor force for this sector in Albania has led to the search for labor forces from abroad, which is apparently the only solution to meet the need. This workforce mainly comes from the Philippines and Nepal, but they will be on trial as the tourism sector is delicate and requires work experience to have a high tourism standard,” said Bedini.
