Waste scandal in Italy

Meanwhile, the Europan Union has only two months left before applying the sanctions for Naples, the city where wastes are a real problem.

A few days ago, RAI broadcasted the investigation of journalist Emilio Casalini, who has followed the illegal course of dangerous waste materials from Italy to China, pretending to be a trafficker.

Since he has worked for a long time in this area that he knows it very well, we paid him a visit at his studio, asking an opinion about the legalized import of waste materials in Albania.

“I don’t know the law in details, but only the concept of importing waste materials seems crazy to me. Every country produces a quantity of waste materials. We produce them, you in Albania produce them. You have refrigerators, computers, toxic materials and wastes from different products. These dangerous materials are produced in every country, and each country must process his own materials”, Casalini declared.

“Opening the door to waste import seems unperceivable to me. Importing them for what? I, as an Italian, raise the question: what implants are there in Albania? What certificates do these implants have? What guarantee do I have on the impact that they bring to the environment, and will they be processes as they should? For as long as these questions remain unanswered, even the export from Italy to Albania wouldn’t be legal, regardless the fact that you have legalized import. It is clear that this opens many possibilities to those who want to make this legally”, Casalini declared.

Emilio Casalini is starting to realize another investigation phase, in what he has called the “Spazzatour” (wastetour). What really needs attention, are his words: “I can’t imagine why such a law has been passed”.
