After several protests against the law of waste import, the
representatives of the civil society signed a demand for abolishing two
clauses of this referendum.
This demand was submitted at the Central Election Commission, which will decide if the Albanians will express their will for allowing waste import or not.
“We submitted our official request, so that the Albanian people can express their will if they favor the waste import in their country or not. We hope that CEC will take it in consideration and gives us the forms for taking the 50.000 citizens’ signatures for the referendum”, declared environmentalist Lavdosh Farruni.
Blendi Kajsiu has brought to attention the corruption related with the waste import between Italy and China, which has been reported these days in foreign media and that could affect Albania soon enough.
“When such events occur take place between two remote and big countries, such as Italy and China, imagine how problematic can the waste import be in a small and unprotected country like Albania. This issue is present in the foreign media, a real concern for the West, and it should be for us too”, Mr. Kajsiu declared.
The civil society representatives have brought to attention former decisions of the government that have been strongly opposed but have not been abolished.
“This is the second time that I come to this building, after we have asked for six consequent months the referendum for the energetic park. Time proved that we were right and that the CEC decision for not allowing the referendum was wrong”, the representatives of the Civil Society declared.
The group that initiated this movement says that some of the clauses of this law infringe the institution and the government’s priorities for tourism.
On the other hand, Albania is a country that doesn’t have the infrastructure and human capacity for monitoring waste import.
