Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future Although 90 days have passed since 62.000 citizens signed the petition
for holding a referendum against the waste import, the Central Election
Commission has given no answer.
The Alliance against the Waste Import asked the Central Election Commission to respect the law and the deadlines that have been established, because it is turning into an obstacle for implementing the constitutional rights of the Albanian citizens.
“More than 90 days ago, on 13 March 2012, the Alliance Against the Waste Import handed over to the Central Election Commission a request with the signatures and a photocopy of the identity cards of 62.000 citizens, who asked the organization of a national referendum about the import of waste materials. We are asking the CEC to announce its decision, so that the national referendum process can be unblocked. Institutions like CEC, which are established for guaranteeing the people’s will, cannot be an obstacle for the people”, declared Blendi Kajsiu, representative of the Alliance.
The members of the Alliance against the Waste Import explained that according to the laws, if CEC doesn’t react, it could be fined.
