Tourism in the southern city of Vlora relies on locals but mostly on Eastern European tourists who usually start their holidays early in April.
But this year the Ukrainians and Belarusians will be absent due to the war, and this is also evident in the canceled bookings, especially from these two countries.
A year ago at this time the tourists had already arrived, while today in Vlora there are only a few families of refugees fleeing the war.
This pushes tour operators to think that they will face a not at all good tourist year while the costs have also increased. But this is not the only concern because in Vlora, in addition to tourists, workers are also lacking.
Every hotel and restaurant in the city has staff shortages. For Vlora, a month before the start of the tourist season, the only hope remains the Albanians of Kosovo and Northern Macedonia visitors, who are expected to arrive after the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, operators say.
