War against corruption

The Prosecutor General, Adriatik Lalla, presented the priorities that he
will follow during his mandate, the most important of which seem to be
war against corruption.

“The Prosecutor General will follow every case suspected of corruption, starting from the activity of Prosecutors and of every citizen and official. This means that the Prosecution needs refreshment that will bring a more efficient activity in the public service. The success is expected through inter-institutional cooperation, which I think that it is in the right level”, the new Prosecutor General declared.

Lalla underlined that he found a Prosecution that doesn’t enjoy too much trust in the population.

“Naturally, this is the institution’s fault too. There are prosecutors who keep the same functions or stay in one area for many years, creating apathy”, Llalla declared.

More direct with prosecutors was President Bujar Nishani, who listed the problems with the task forces and the postponement of investigative files when they end up in Court.

“We are not at that level that we had in the first days or months of this task force. This is the reality, but we also have good stories and contributions, and also cases when an investigation process starts for corrupted public employees, with strong evidence in the Prosecutor’s case that lose their power during the way. And when presented to court, this evidence is suddenly weak or are not presented at all”, Nishani declared.

The President proposed to see a new way of promoting prosecutors, based on the strong cases they built. He also told the Prosecutors to stay away from politics and crime.

“If a prosecutor falls prey to his biggest enemies, political games and criminal groups, there will be nothing to take you out of that, hence I encourage a decent positioning”, Nishani declared.
