Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future Democrats and Socialists made another step forward at the meeting of the
Electoral Reform Commission, in which they approved the package that
regulates the planning, correction publication and inspection of the
voters’ lists.
This chapter includes new concepts, focusing everything on the Registrar’s Office, where the voters’ lists are produced. These amends allow the civil registrar to change the voter’s name with a citizen’s request.
According to experts from both parties, this method guarantees data accuracy and leaves no space for abuses. The local administration will inform the voters in their residences, as they have done so far. The amends on the list, according to the citizens’ request, will be displayed each month and this is what the experts think that it will guarantee transparency.
On the other hand, the Central Election Commission will have online access to every change of the voters’ lists. Through this way, the electoral subjects will be able to take immediate data, since every action of the civil registrar operators will leave traces on the system.
The Socialist Co-Chairman of the Commission for the Electoral Reform, Damian Gjiknuri, was optimist that the new rules will be set within this week, together with the electronic ballot counting rules.
“This chapter is related with another one, that I think that will pass this week. It is about the electronic ballot count and electronic reading of identity cards in voting centers”, Gjiknuri declared.
Gjiknuri believes that the Commission will close its work within the given deadline by approving the two last chapters, the one of the CEC and the electoral process complaints.
