The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, as part of her visit to the Albanian capital, was today at the opening of the College of Europe in Tirana, which she called it “a new beginning, with new friends and new dreams”.
“This ceremony is more than the beginning of a new academic year. When our continent was destroyed a group of European pioneers created an idea, a school for young European leaders. As it is said, ‘we open the door to good things and when they come, the line comes together’, and here we are”, said the President.
In a message to the students, she spoke about Tirana and the opportunities it offers. “It’s home to so much talent, look at this amazing city. Tirana is no wonder it attracts minds like yours. The airport is growing fast, it’s a haven for innovators and from what I’m told the nightlife is fantastic too, but don’t stay out too late if you have school the next day. The time has come to move forward at full speed, that has been my objective. The EU is not the destination of your travels, we are fellow travelers. Every reform will bring new investments”, said Von der Leyen.
