Vlore, funeral homages for Judge Konomi

The first homage were paid at the Vlore theater “Petro Marko”, with the presence of high-rank government officials , MPs from both political parties, local leaders and hundreds of citizens, friends and relatives.

The Vice Chairman of the High Council of Justice, Kreshnik Spahiu declared that the life of the judges should be better guaranteed and that the execution of Judge Konomi was a mafia crime.

The Mayor of Vlore, Shpetim Gjika considered the murder as a serious loss not only for the family, but also for the city and the Albanian justice.

Skerdilajd Konomi, Judge at the Vlore Court of First Degree was killed on Friday after an explosive blew up in his car, while he was driving through the city center.

The 33-year-old judge was married, father of two children, 4 and 1 year old. He was going to work with his vehicle and the explosion took place while he was driving, without any other vehicles near him at that moment. The explosion has shocked the passerby citizens who saw the car still moving after the explosion. Some of them rushed to open the destroyed doors.

The explosion had caused his legs to get stuck in the iron parts of the car, and the citizens were unable to remove the body from the vehicle, which took fire right after.

Only after the firefighters put out the flames, the police and citizens removed the body of the judge, who was still alive. The police transported him to hospital before waiting for the ambulance. The judge lost his life right after arriving at the hospital, due to the heavy wounds and serious burns.

This is the second car explosion in the city of Vlore, in a short period of time, causing terror. A few months before, Renato Abazi was executed with the same style in the city center.

Mafia style execution

After verifying the owner of the vehicle, the Police of Vlore suddenly understood that this was a much serious murder attempt than the two others that had taken place in Vlore. The crime scene was almost the same with the other two, the victim was the difference.

The best experts of the State Police arrived at the crime scene and stated that the car of Judge Skerdilajd Konomi was charged with a considerable quantity of explosive which was remotely controlled. A few hours later, the investigators ran into another fact that classified this event as a mafia-style crime.

Judge Konomi had just bought an expensive new “Mercedes”. The old Mercedes that he used today was usually used by his wife. One day before the murder, someone had slashed the tires of the new car with a knife, obliging the judge to use the other car for going to work. Police experts declared that it was difficult for the murderers to place the explosive on the new car, due to the modern security systems, while with the old car was very easy.

Konomi murder, Halimi: Witnesses and proofs

The Minister of Justice, Eduard Halimi visited the family of Judge Skerdilajd Konomi, who was killed in a car bomb in the center of Vlore.

Speaking for the media, Halimi declared that he met the investigation team that is working intensively and now is on the right track.

A few minutes before, I met the investigation team and noted that they are working perfectly well, in cooperation with the best experts of Justice, Criminal Police and the Serious Crimes. I received the guarantee that the investigation will be fast, efficient and the responsible will face law”, Halimi declared.

“What is important to note, is that this is not a perfect crime. There are proofs and witnesses who are talking, and the authors will be brought to justice”, he underlined.

The Minister of Justice further added that he has guaranteed the family members that justice will be served, and that the investigators will have the government’s support.
