Vlore, “Uji i Ftohte†tunnel widened

The works have started in the “Uji i Ftohte” area, in Vlore, for
widening the famous tunnel that connects the coastline with the rest of
the country.
This narrow one way road that goes through the tunnel has been very problematic for the traffic, especially during the summer season. The 75 million ALL investment, given by the government, will be used for widening the tunnel and easing the traffic. According to the agreement, the works end by May 2012.
The tunnel was built during the First World War, by the Austrian Army and after by the Italian Army. In its almost one century of existence, the tunnel has had only small repairs. This is the first investment that is used for widening it.
