Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future A country that removed the visa regime for Albania some time ago,
Croatia can now be visited by the Albanian citizens only with the
national driving licenses, without needing the international ones.
Croatia and Albania signed this agreement this Monday, during the visit of the Croatian President, Ivo Josipovic, about the mutual recognition of the driving licenses.
After the Presidential meeting, the agreement was signed by the Interior Minister of Croatia and the Foreign Minister of Albania. Before entering in act, the agreement should be ratified first by the respective Parliaments.
Croatia is an important country, a NATO member, together with Albania. The Croatian have just approved their EU membership through a referendum, which will enter in effect from July 1st, 2013. As such, Croatia is a valuable partner of Albania in the integration road.
“With its experience, Croatia is ready to help Albania with the European-Atlantic integration. Our road was very difficult. We declared war to corruption, which unfortunately is still present. In this aspect, Albania will find in Croatia a true friend”, Josipovic declared.
But will Albania be able to receive the EU candidate status in this symbolical year of the 100th anniversary of independence?
“My desire is such, and I will be the interpretation of a deep aspiration of the Albanian people for the EU candidate status, which has a special symbolism. We are constantly communicating with the EU representatives, and the truth is that what appears in the communication with the politicians is only some part of the big work that the experts must achieve for fulfilling those necessary criteria for the EU candidate status. I believe that regardless the always present problems of our politics, there is a return to the parliamentary cooperation of the political parties”, Topi declared.
The Croatian President also attended a meeting with the Parliament Speaker, Jozefina Topalli, and the Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
