Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future Dozens of families in Kalenje village, Mallakastra, have been unable to
work their land for the last two years, when another citizen claimed the
ownership of the 40 hectares.
Despite the fact that each of them has an assessment proving their ownership under Law 7501, no one has gone to work the land after the threats launched by Erjon Murati.
Residents say that both father and son have used hunting rifles to intimidate anyone that tries to work on that land.
The residents have systematically asked the Ballsh police for help, but no measures have been ever taken to avoid a conflict that could take tragic proportions. Intimidated by the threats, the residents are demanding for an immediate intervention from the state. The property they own according to the law is the only means of survival for their families.
