Villagers close to Greek border have already welcomed Syrians

Albania might be a transit country for the refugees fleeing the Syrian
war. While no organized movement has been reported yet, Albanian
villages close to the Greek border have already dealt with Syrian
refugees, even months earlier.

Residents say they have already met several Syrians who have crossed the border from Greece even months earlier and have asked them for help. Some of them didn’t even knew they were outside Greece on their trip to EU countries.

Koshovica, a Gjirokaster village close to the Greek border has only 50 residents today, who already speak better Greek than Albanian. They are sure if they should welcome the Syrian refugees or not. They do remember well the time when Albanians used to walk from their village to Greece, which is just a 30 minute walk.

However, the villagers say there is a huge difference between Albanians in the early 90s and Syrians today, because we had no war. And today no one is really sure of who will cross the border.
