In the village of Çermë Sektor (Tërbuf) of Divjaka in central-western Albania, there is no general practitioner for 10 months now, while its 6,000 residents are served by a specialist doctor who comes to work only three days a week.

Residents complain that before there were two doctors, while today there is only one who serves for two or three times a week. Having no medical service through the majority of the week, they are forced to go to the city of Lushnje, which entails additional costs, especially for chronic patients.

The nurse of the Çerme Sector Health Center, Mrs. Zamira Jahollari, explains to Fiks Fare program, that after the doctor’s departure from this center, ten months have passed and no one has come to replace her. It often happens that she gives the recommendations for the sick to visit the doctor in Lushnje.

The Lushnje health director, Mr. Denis Korreshi, in an interview for the Fiks Fare program, claimed that he is aware of this situation, but so far the replacement of the doctor has not been resolved. This, according to him, is because no one has shown interest in being employed in this position on the “Doctor for Albania” state portal. As long as someone shows interest, he cannot be replaced by someone else, while regarding recommendations to specialist doctors, he says that this should only be done by other doctors who come for help from other health centers, or by the doctor who comes on the weekend.

Until someone applies for the vacant place, the 6,000 residents of the village of Çermë Sector will receive limited service or have to travel to the clinic of the nearby city.
