The mayor of Tirana welcomed today his Istanbul counterpart, Ekrem İmamoğlu, to whom he presented the “Key of Tirana” while commenting that Tirana should take an example from Istanbul as far as tourism is concerned.
“Istanbul is a big city by which we are inspired, that has become an example of coexistence today. We are really happy that you are here today, and thank you very much for the vision of the network of cities. We will do our best to make this Presidency, as you predicted, a year with many activities and more cooperation”, said Veliaj, referring to the B-40 initiative for Balkan cities cooperation.
“It is very important who the neighbors are: for us it is very important that Turkey is a good neighbor, like Greece, Italy, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, that is, the whole region, is moving towards a good neighborliness, leaving behind memories of division. I believe that the diplomacy of cities is as important as that between states. I want to thank you for the hospitality of the Albanians in Istanbul and the fact that you are a big house for those who have created families there”, said Veliaj further on.
The Mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu, exchanged tha messages of thanks and kindness: “I am very happy. We are neighbors in Istanbul with many Albanians, they are my brothers. I have the same feeling even now that I am here.”
