The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, continues his visit in the Netherlands, together with the Minister of Interior, Fatmir Xhafaj, and the Minister of Justice, Etilda Gjonaj. The two ministers and Veliaj were received by the Rotterdam Mayor, Ahmed Aboutaleb.
Veliaj said that the purpose of this meeting was to introduce the Dutch authorities with the European Albania and the reforms were undertaken so far for opening the EU accession negotiations.
“These days in the Netherlands were intensive. We all know that the Netherlands has been one of the sceptical countries. There was a campaign of communication together with the Minister of Interior and the Justice Ministers. I think that we should work like ‘team Albania’. It doesn’t matter if you are in government, in opposition, from the local or central authority. We all have one purpose. I believe we have a strong argument to request Netherlands to join the big list of countries that want Albania in the EU”, Veliaj said.
After the meeting, Veliaj was optimistic for Netherland’s support on the proposition made by the European Commission for opening the accession negotiations with Albania.
