The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, introduced today the urban plan for
the Albanian capital. He returned to the protests of the civil society
at the Artificial Lake in Tirana, who opposed the building of a
playground that would require cutting several trees. Veliaj said that
the plan would not be stopped by a noisy minority.

“Violence is not a means of communication. People have trusted us with their votes. They trusted us the vision for the city. We will not be dictated by a noisy minority. The city will progress. I am convinced that the silent and wise majority of the city wants Tirana on the right track. Violence will not be imposed to the ideas for the city, as long as I am Mayor”, Veliaj said.

The Mayor of Tirana added that many protesters came from other cities and didn’t even know where the Tirana Lake was.

“We will build the artificial lake. This city belongs to everyone, even to children. We have had 24 hearings for the park and we have traded that project. We will meet with those who weren’t there, if needed, on June 1st. There will be no cafes or restaurants there. If there will be any on the inauguration day, I will resign”, Veliaj declared.
