The Socialist candidate for the Tirana City Hall, Erion Veliaj, has
invited the opposition candidate, Halim Kosova, to confront him in a TV
debate with each of them presenting their platform for Tirana.
“This is the hearing part of the campaign and I would love to have a big forum and debate with my adversary, and discuss our programs. An EU candidate country cannot behave like in the Soviet era, with candidates that do not make a debate”, Veliaj declared.
Veliaj attended a meeting with small business representatives who expressed their concerns regarding taxes. The majority candidate declared that there will be no preferences for collecting taxes and they will not be increased.
“No business has been complaining about the high taxes of the municipality, but because 30% doesn’n pay taxes at all. Injustice is worst than the fee in this case. I don’t think that the city needs to increase taxes and fees. It needs to collect them”, Veliaj declared.
Veliaj said that it is necessary to establish the Municipality Economic Council to discuss investments before they pass at the Municipal Council, same as with the National Council of Labor.
The former Minister of Social Welfare, today candidate of the majority for Tirana, declared that the new municipality will have a fund for increasing employment so that the local government can have newer employment opportunities.
