The US Ambassador, Alexander Arvizu, the ambassador of the EU delegation
and the head of the OSCE presence in Albania expressed in a joint press
release their full support and trust to the Albanian Prosecution for
the investigation of the January 21st events.

The declaration was made public by the US Embassy, different to other
times, when these joint declarations were released by the OSCE office.
The Ambassadors declared that “January 21st was a painful day in the
history of Albania, with violent demonstrations in the Albanian capital.
On that tragic day, four protesters were killed and dozens others were
wounded, including other protesters, passerby citizens and police
officer. We desire once again to express our regret for the relatives of
the victims of this senseless and unforgivable violence. It is
necessary to shed light on the January 21st events with a credible
judicial procedure, an all-inclusive and independent investigation, free
from political interventions. The Albanian people are waiting for
justice to be served. In this context, we believe that the Albanian
Prosecution is the right institution for this investigation, the
institution that has our full trust and support”, the declaration says.

“The
guarantee and respect of the rule of law is an essential element of
democratic societies, and a precondition for the EU integration
progress. This is part of the aspiration of the Albanian people”, the
ambassadors underline.

“January 21st must be more than a day of
commemoration. It must serve as a possibility for the Albanians to see
towards the future, and that the political forces reinforce their
political dialogue and cooperation for the EU integration and reforms”,
the declaration continues.

“We encourage the political leaders to
put the country’s interests and those of the citizens before partial
considerations, and focus on joining their efforts for making concrete
steps to lead Albania to the road of reforms during 2012”, concludes the
USA, EU and OSCE declaration.
