For the United States, public safety and fight against crime and illegal
traffics remain a priority in Albania and attract maximal attention.
This message was given by the United States ambassador to Tirana, Alexander Arvizu, to the man that has been proposed as Minister of Interior Affairs in the new socialist government, Mr.Saimir Tahiri.
The ambassador, accompanied by a group of high rank leaders of the United States Embassy, talked for more than 80 minutes with Mr.Tahiri at the Socialist Party HQ, on matters that are closely related to the public safety, fight against crime and illegal traffics. The ambassador confirmed after the meeting that the expectancies for the new government are high, and Edi Rama’s cabinet will have the support of the United States in the battle for public order and safety.
“We are consulting people who will be part of the government. Naturally, the Interior Ministry is a key actor. As you see we have a big staff of the embassy here. We spoke about the program priorities, in the effort to reinforce the successes that have already been achieved. The new government also ha a strong mandate, supported massively by the people. There are expectancies for the reforms. We want to be fully supportive to the European Union integration agenda in Albania. There are some strategic aspects and even daily operational matters. Certainly, it is up to the new government. They are the ones in charge. We are here as very cooperative partners. This is what we are doing, we are giving advises”, Arvizu declared.
When asked by Top Channel if they had discussed specific matters that are related with the illegal traffics or the public order, as identified by the United States State Department, Mr.Arvizu declared:
“We have discussed for several specific cases, because, naturally, every democracy has matters that can affect citizens, such as the crime rates and corruption. We discussed on how we can exchange our experiences and what is more efficient in preventing crime. Crime is a very difficult matter and we always face it even in the United States. There is no magic formula about this, but the most important thing is that Mr.Tahiri and the new government should understand that this is a matter that concerns the Albanian citizens, and this is also a matter for us, because we want to help the Albanian government and its citizens in the European integration agenda. That’s why we are here, to help”.
