The US Ambassador to Tirana, Donald Lu, preferred to mention specific names of the politicians who have made comments against the LGBTI community.
Speaking at an activity in the Albanian Parliament, Lu said that they have followed the comments of Ylli Manjani, Tritan Shehu and Oriola Pampuri against the gay community.
“Only some of them had real courage: Igli Totozani, Vasilika Hysi, Elona Gjebrea and Olta Xhacka. We are watching the debate incited by Ylli Manjani, Tritan Shehu and Oriola Pampuri. I hope that the political leaders will understand that their words represent not only their personal views but also those of the people who elected them”, Lu said.
He added that although it is true that there has been some progress during his three years in Tirana, he has seen constant discrimination and homophobia, but also Albanian politicians ready to support the LGBTI community.
